The new hire who hit two dead links in week one
Learning Paths auto-assigned a week-one reading path. Two of the five links pointed to SOPs that had been renamed. The new hire hit a 404 twice and asked her manager if anyone else used this system.
A learning path is only worth the links it can still open on Monday.
What happened
New hire joined on Monday. Learning Paths auto-assigned a week-one role path. Five links. Two broken. One SOP had been renamed from "Client intake v2" to "Onboarding kickoff SOP". The other got moved into a subpage. The hire reached link three, hit a wall, hit another, and asked her manager "is this real?"
The fix
Every Learning Path now validates its references before it assigns. The validator runs in the background, checks every link, flags any that 404 or redirect. A path cannot auto-assign to a hire if any of its links are broken. Broken links ping the KB owner in Slack with the proposed fix.
The lesson
References decay. A learning path that was fresh when we shipped it can rot in a month. Build the validator before you build the fancy features. First impressions for new hires are where systems die.
