Onboarding Tracker

Every new hire walks themselves through week one without a Slack DM asking where the SOPs are. A role-filtered view of your knowledge base.

What it does

A one-page onboarding walk-through per role. The new hire opens their link on day one and sees an ordered list of pages: what to read, what to do, who to meet, in sequence. Each row is a checkbox. The ops lead sees a dashboard of every hire and where they are in the path.

Why this architecture

Onboarding fails when it is a Slack thread. "Here are some SOPs, start with the intake one, actually skip that, read this first." New hire learns the tools but not the shape. This template makes the path explicit. Ordered, owned, trackable. The hire never has to guess what comes next, and the ops lead never has to DM someone to ask if they are okay.

What lives inside

No new database. One filtered view of the existing Knowledge Base database, sorted by onboarding order, filtered by the hire's role. Plus a checkbox column for completion and a relation to the hire's profile. Views: My onboarding path (per hire), Cohort progress (ops view), Overdue (ops view).

How it runs

The ops lead creates a hire row, sets the role, the template clones the ordered pages into their view. Day one, the hire opens their link, ticks pages off as they read them. Friday afternoon, the ops lead opens the Cohort progress view. Anyone at 0% for 24 hours gets a Slack check-in.

What breaks, and how to avoid it

The first failure is paths that do not match the job. A hire joins as a junior strategist and gets the senior strategist path. They read 40 pages of context that will matter next year, not this month. Fix: role-filtered paths, not one size fits all.

The second failure is paths that never get updated. A new tool rolls out, the onboarding path does not change, the hire learns the old tool for two weeks. Fix: every page has an owner and a review date. Stale pages flag on the weekly audit, same as the knowledge base.
